Marie Mavadene (Stanton) Baker, 88, Martinsville, Mo. passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Bethany Care Center, Bethany, Mo.

 Mavadene was born June 8, 1931 on a farm northwest of Martinsville, Mo. the daughter of Clifton Ragan and Eythel Lora (Smith) Stanton.

 Mavadene attended grade school at Muddy Valley and later attended Martinsville High School where she graduated in 1949. She played basketball and volleyball during her school years.

On February 6, 1950, she married Boyd Rondall Baker in the home of O.D. Hedges near New Hampton, Mo.  Boyd preceded her in death on September 24, 2016 after 66 years of marriage. In 1957 they moved onto the farm where they built their own home and enjoyed farming and raising their children. 

Mavadene was baptized on December 21, 1941 and was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. After her and Boyd were married, they attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church for over 68 years.

Mavadene did wallpapering in her early married life and she cooked and drove the school bus for Martinsville School District. When her children were growing up, she always had three gardens to tend to and would can at least 100 quarts of green beans and tomatoes each season. She also raised chickens and picked raspberries and gooseberries for her pies. In her spare time she made hand pieced quilts for her children and grandchildren, worked crossword puzzles and read books. She enjoyed following her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the ball games through the years and going to her class reunions. She enjoyed family dinners and was proud of her children and grandchildren.

She was treasurer of the Wesley Chapel Sunday School, a member of the Wesley Chapel Ladies Aid and VFW Post #2176 Auxiliary.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, an infant, Melvin Eugene and Marvin C. Stanton and an infant sister, Adella Nadine Stanton.

Survivors include her sons, Melvin (Cassandra) Baker, Martinsville, Mo. and Terry Baker (Ronda Norton), Bethany, Mo.; daughters, Sandra (Ken) Caley and Barbara Baker both of New Hampton, Mo.; grandchildren, Klaire Williams, Ian (Megan) Caley, Trevor, Hannah and Kevin Baker and James, Chloe and Bella Norton; great-grandchildren, Lucien and Larson Hutchison and Charlotte, Caroline and Catherine Caley; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eldon and Connie Baker and Glenys Stanton and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were June 18 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo.  Burial in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, Mo.  Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.
