Republican-Clipper photo A time of transition at the courthouse: Retiring County Clerk Jackie Deskins, left, and her successor, Greta Bottcher, were honored at a reception at the courthouse last week. Greta was honored for her long service to the Circuit Clerk’s office. She will take her oath of office next week as the Harrison County Clerk.

Colleagues held a cake-and-punch reception last Monday in the courthouse lobby for Jackie Deskins who will retire this week after eight years as the Harrison County Clerk.
The reception had a dual purpose. Greta Bottcher was honored for nearly 12 years service in the Harrison County Circuit Clerk’s office. Greta was elected in the general election to succeed Jackie as the county clerk.
Deskins came to the county clerk’s office in 1990 when she served as a deputy to longtime head of the office, Barbara Gates. She was later elected county clerk and will be completing her second term on Dec. 31.
