Harrison County, MO: Lyle Lemuel Edwards, son of Garland and Lola (Mabbitt) Edwards and was born on May 29,1933 on the family farm in Harrison County, Missouri and passed away in Bethany on October 30, 2026, at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 1 day.
Lyle attended primary school at Bush Country school and Piburn Country School, then high school at Ridgeway. Arloa Hendren Edwards also attended high school in Ridgeway and was in the same grade. They started dating in their sophomore year of high
school. They were married on January 12, 1952 in Martinsville at the home of minister O.D. Hedges. Arloa’s brother and sister-in-law, James and Norma Sue Hendren, stood up with them as witnesses. Larry and Joanne Baker, good friends and classmates, also got married that day, and Lyle and Arloa were their witnesses. Lyle and Arloa honeymooned in Cameron, Missouri. They were married for 65 years and 11 ½ months and raised 3 children – Peggy, Don, and Ron.
For all but 6 months as newlyweds and the 2 years before his death, Lyle lived all of his life on his family farm Northwest of Brooklyn, Missouri. Upon his father’s death at the age of 17, Lyle took on responsibility for the farm and dedicated his life to farming. In 1965, Lyle received the first ever Harrison County Outstanding Young Farmer Award. The award was not only based on farm management but included community service. He was a member of: North Harrison School Board, Masonic Lodge, ASCS committee, Feeder Calf Association, and Brooklyn Christian Church.
His hobbies included 4-H and livestock shows, coaching summer baseball, and attending the many sporting activities of his kids and grandkids. Lyle and Arloa and their children took several trips to California to visit Lyle’s mother. During these trips they would take a camper and camp along the way, often stopping at the Cheyenne Rodeo. In their later years they traveled from coast to coast, enjoying camping and meeting people. For a few years they loved being snowbirds in the Texas Valley. The years wintering in Texas were full of music, fellowship with old friends, and visiting with new ones. One of the highlights of their traveling was taking a vacation to Alaska with their 3 children and spouses.
Music was a life long hobby for Lyle. He taught himself to play the guitar and spent the majority of his life entertaining others with his playing and singing. Many weekends Lyle could be found playing for a small crowd at Perky’s Corner, numerous area opry’s, church, or just at home with family. They also loved spending time at State Center, Iowa and The Nations. When he wasn’t singing, Lyle was probably telling a joke or a humorous story. He loved to share a laugh. Even during his last few weeks, he would tease visitors and nurses.
Lyle and Arloa were members of the Brooklyn Christian Church until it closed in the late 1960’s. They then transferred their membership to the Eagleville Christian Church, where they attended regularly.
Nearly always together, Lyle and Arloa were a good example of a strong and supportive marriage. They followed the activities of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, traveling many miles and spending numerous hours at music, baseball, softball, basketball, and football games/events. Lyle attended thousands of athletic events and was a die hard fan of the Shamrocks, Bulldogs, Cardinals, Blaze, and Eagles.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Arloa, parents Garland and Lola, his brother Kyle and sister-in-law Ivadene, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Norma Sue Hendren, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Willis and Valda Hendren.
