Liberty, MO: John Bennett was born on February 8, 1959, to Fred and Roberta (Pierce) Bennett of Ridgeway, Missouri and passed away September 30, 2026 in Liberty, Mo.
John spent his early years in Ridgeway, where he attended elementary school, before continuing his education in St. Joseph, Missouri. At just 17 years old, John enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country at a young age.
Following his time in the Navy, John made his home in Redondo Beach, California, where he lived for several years. He later spent time in Texas before eventually making his way back to his Missouri roots.
John had a love for the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed listening to country music, especially his favorite artist, Conway Twitty. He was also a loyal Kansas City sports fan who loved cheering on his beloved Chiefs and Royals. Whether enjoying his favorite music, watching a ballgame, or spending time with family and friends, John knew how to have a good time.
Those who knew John knew he had a stubborn streak, and he wasn’t afraid to show it! He liked doing things his own way, but that was simply part of what made John who he was. His strong-willed personality, love of a good time, and the memories he made along the way will not soon be forgotten.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roberta Bennett, and his brothers, Rich Bennett and David Bennett.
John is survived by his son, Dierks Bennett of Liberty, Mo., and his grandson, Oliver; three brothers, Ron (Carol) Bennett of Bethany, Mo. – Fred (Debbie) Bennett of Eagleville, Mo., and Allen Bennett of Bethany, Mo.; two sisters, Marla (Bennett) Williams of Lawson, Mo., and Rita (Ed) Reeder of Independence, Mo.; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In one final act of generosity, John gave the precious gift of life through organ donation. Because of his decision to be an organ donor, several individuals will have the opportunity for a second chance at life. Though his time here on earth has come to an end, his legacy will live on through the lives he has touched and the lives he will help save. It is a beautiful reminder that even in loss, there can be hope.
John will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. While his presence will be missed, the memories, laughter, and stories shared throughout his life will remain with his family and friends for years to come.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Bethany, Mo. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
A dinner and time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. All family and friends are warmly invited to attend, share memories, and celebrate John’s life together.
John 11:25–26
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
