
Lee’s Summit, MO: James Melvin Robertson, 88, formerly of Bethany, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026 at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
James was born on October 31, 1937 in Mercer, Missouri to Henry Jennings and Mable (Eaton) Robertson. He was the youngest of four children. His father was a minister and they moved around a lot when he was young, homesteading churches all around North Missouri and Southern Iowa.
On November 7, 1975, he was united in marriage to Anita C. Hendren at the First Baptist Church in Bethany, Missouri. He worked for MoDOT as a Laborer, Special Project Supervisor, and retired as a Area Supervisor after 39 years. He was very active in church as a deacon and was a Sunday School Superintendent at the Assembly of God Church in Bethany. James and Anita were both members of MAPS and enjoyed volunteering their time traveling to help build and repair churches in need in Texas.
James loved fixing cars and could fix anything. He was a natural born engineer. But most of all he loved being Grandpa.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mable Robertson; wife, Anita Robertson; and his siblings, Elmer Robertson, Ethel Elston, and Mary Dale. He is survived by his children, James D. Robertson (Thaila), Don Robertson (Hilary), Jackie Deskins, and Joni Wylie (Jimmy); 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Roberson Funeral Home, 1107 S. 25th St., Bethany, MO 64424. A visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery in Bethany, MO.
