
St. Joseph, MO: Darryl D. Hartschen, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, in St. Joseph, Mo., under the compassionate care of Luminos Hospice, with his family by his side.
Darryl was born on February 27, 1956, to John Oscar Hartschen and Vera Mae (Wardrip) Hartschen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John H. Hartschen.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Francis Hartschen, niece, Jennifer (Todd) Yarnell, nephew, Jeffery (Heather) Hartschen, and other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
For the past 53 years, Darryl lived as a paraplegic, facing life’s challenges with resilience and determination. He attended the University of Missouri, where he studied Information Technology, and he spent many years pursuing his passion for computers and computer programming.
Darryl was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. He loved starting his mornings with good music, especially songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, his favorite band. Darryl also enjoyed the company of family and friends and always welcomed visitors. His warm spirit, love of conversation, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures will be remembered by all who knew him. A private burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Albany, Mo.
