Marionville, MO: Charles H. Newman, 83, of Marionville, Mo. passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville. He was born on May 22, 1942, in Bethany, Mo., the son of Dwight and Ruth Newman.
Charlie was a graduate of South Harrison High School in Bethany in 1960. He also graduated from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield and was a graduate of the Madison School of Banking.
In high school, Charlie loved music and played the saxophone in the school band, pep band and dance bands. He also sang bass in the Methodist Church choir and the Family Quartet. During those school years he worked at the Noll Brothers Grocery Store.
Charlie served in the Army Reserves and completed his obligation with an Honorable Discharge. He worked for the U.S. Treasury Department as a Federal Bank Examiner in Kansas City and St. Louis.
Not liking cold weather, Charlie moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. where he retired and lived for 17 years. Due to health reasons, he moved back to Missouri to be closer to family. Since he loved the Springfield area when going to college he moved to independent living in the Ozark Methodist Manor in Marionville.
He was a scanner and cb radio (citizen band) enthusiast. He enjoyed going for coffee and ice cream with his buddies at the manor. He also sang in the Manor Choir and served on the Residential Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his brother David (Ann) Newman of St. Joseph, Mo.; two nephews, Steven and Daniel and one niece, Angela; in addition he has six great nieces and nephews and seven great great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m. in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, 229 W, Church St., Aurora, Mo.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ozarks Methodist Manor, 205 S. College Ave., Marionville, Mo. 65705 of First Lutheran Church, 302 S. 10th St., St. Joseph, Mo. 64501.
