Steve M. Hefley, 71, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away November 9, 2018 at home with his wife and two children by his side.

He was born August 30, 1947 at home in Old Pattonsburg, Missouri, the son of Ora Marion and Wilma Irene (Musick) Hefley. Steve attended school in Bethany until his sophomore year when his family moved to Paola, Kansas, where he graduated from high school in 1965.

On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to Pat Moore in Paola, Kansas. She survives at the family home.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology from Pittsburg State University.

Mr. Hefley worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City for four years before moving back to Pittsburg. He served on Pittsburg State University’s Electronics Engineering Technology faculty, retiring as a professor after 35 years. He was a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and Instrument Society of America.

A member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg, Mr. Hefley served on the Board and as Finance Director.

He was an avid ham radio operator. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling.

In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle Speak and her husband, Jeff of Parker, Colorado; a son, Bryan Hefley and his wife, Sherri of Salado, Texas; a sister, Carole Reese of Maryville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Donald Reese.

Services were held November 14 with burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene.
