Richard O’Neal “Jake” Collins, 82 of Bethany, MO (formerly of Blythedale, MO) passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Crestview Nursing Home, Bethany, MO.
Jake was born December 7, 1933 in Madison County, IA the son of Burness and Lena (Long) Collins and the youngest of 9 children.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Timothy and Bernard “Sam” Collins; and sisters, Margaret “Margie” Critchfield, Mary Winifred “Winnie” Schaefer, Evelyn Clark, Edith “Bonnie” Green; and 1 sibling that died at infancy.
On April 18, 1954 he married Judy Ceranek. To this union, 4 children were born: Ray (Sue) Pine, Portland, OR, Laurie (Stan) Halfacre, Madera, CA, Jeff Collins, Paton, IA, Joel Collins, Marquette, MI. After this marriage ended, he married Cheryl Bain and to this union one child, Billy Joe (Lutricia), was born. Later, they divorced and Cheryl had another son, Clint (Jessie), who Jake loved and raised as his own son.
Jake enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He spent many years as a horseshoer, brick layer, and teller of tall tales (which were true!).
Survivors in addition to his children include 15 grandchildren/step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren/step-great grandchildren; and sister, Frances “Sal” Bush, Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, MO. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
