Carlisle, IN: Kenneth R. McAtee passed away January 11, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Trenton, Mo., on September 10, 1937 to Vivian Ratliff McAtee and Ray McAtee.
Moved to Shenandoah, Iowa as a young child. He graduated Shenandoah High School.
On June 9, 1957 he married Mary Toland.
In 1958 they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa and opened Ken’s Locker and Meat Market.
In 1960 Ken went to work for Uncle Sam, by way of the US Army. Basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas, and then to a NIKE Base in Chicago area. Mary followed him to Illinois. They made their home in Illinois for 11 years. After the service Ken became employed by Jewel Food Stores and rose to the position of Store Manager. During this time they were blessed with a daughter to be named Debra McAtee.
In 1972 Ken decided to move his family to his beloved Hudson Lake home in New Carlisle, Ind. Ken loved to fish, hunt and go boating, all of which he shared with his daughter. He loved children and animals. Ken played a very active part in the New Carlisle Community. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #297.
Ken retired in 2003 from the University of Notre Dame after 20 years. Upon retirement Ken and Mary split their time between New Carlisle and Gilman City, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Debra McAtee-Jurkowski (Jamie); grandchildren, Broc Jurkowski, Alexis Jurkowski, Cole Jurkowski and Tori Jurkowski; two nieces, Christine Klosterman and family and Tracy Roudabush and family; one aunt, Carolyn Griffin; several cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Ray McAtee; two brothers, Frances McAtee, sister-in-law, Cindy McAtee and Robert McAtee; two nieces, Rhonda and Robin McAtee; and his Mother and Father-law, Cora and Elliott Toland.
A Celebration of life will be at a later date.
