FREDDIE NAIL, 1926-2018

Bethany, MO: Freddie Nail, 92, Bethany, MO (formerly of Martinsville, MO) passed away June 18, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Bethany, MO, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 21, 1926, in Albany, Missouri, to Frederick Nail and Zelma (Dickey) Nail. After his father died, his mother married Louie Smith who raised him as his own. He was baptized at an early age into Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member for the rest of his life.

After graduating from Martinsville High School in 1944, he entered the Navy serving in the retaking of Iwo Jima. After 2 years in the Navy, he returned home to start farming. Fred married Helen McElvain, May 3, 1947, in Filmore, MO. They made their home on the family farm northwest of Washington Center for 69 years before moving into Bethany in 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father and his brother, Bill Nail.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: daughter, Susie (Jim) Parker; sons, Fred (Connie) Nail, Bruce (Karen) Nail, and Rob (Robin) Nail; 9 grandchildren, Lori (Dewayne) Christensen, Matt (Laura) Parker, Julie (Jeff) Talkington, Brad (Angie) Nail, Brian (Jackie) Nail, Crissy (Chad) Wooderson, Dustin (Nikki) Nail, Ashley Nail and Chase Nail; and 14 great grandchildren with another on the way.

He loved peanut brittle, peppermints, and gooseberry pie, Allis Chalmers tractors, quail hunting and pitching horseshoes. He loved to watch his children then his grandchildren and finally his great grandchildren play sports and other activities. In later years, he got great enjoyment from bird watching and jigsaw puzzles.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Martinsville, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.
