Chillicothe, MO:  Charles A. Hemenway, 92, Chillicothe, MO (formerly of Princeton and Mercer, MO) passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at his home.

     Charles was born September 19, 1929 in Clio, Iowa the youngest son of Joseph and Ola Myrtle (Wright) Hemenway.

     On July 27, 1957, he married Bettie Lou (Jay) Hemenway.  After 57 years of marriage, Bettie passed away in 2012.  From that union, they had two children, Charles Kevin Hemenway from Mercer, MO and Joseph Jay Hemenway of Bethany, MO.

     Charles remarried to Shirley A. Sprague on July 2, 2016 in Chillicothe, MO where they resided. 

     Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents and brother, George Hemenway.

     After several employments and local work sites, he was accepted into Pipe-Fitters and Plumbers Union in Hannibal, MO.  After transferring into Pipe-Fitters Union of St. Louis, he began working various job-sites including chemical plants, power houses, hospitals and schools doing heating and air-conditioning as a high pressure welder.  Charles also was a welding instructor in Macon, MO for five years.  He served in the military for two years in Korea, Japan and the United States.  Charles loved to dance and went to all the dances when his first wife played in the band and won many awards.  Charles and Shirley continued to go dancing until Charles was 92 years old and made many friends.    

     Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; sons, Kevin Hemenway and Jay Hemenway; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.      Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31 at Roberson Funeral Home, Princeton, MO.  Burial with Military Rites will follow in the Middlepoint Cemetery, Mercer, MO.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home where friends may call after 9:00 a.m.  Memorials may be made to the St. Luke’s Hospice and/or the Humane Society in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. box 316, Princeton, MO  64673.  Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com
