Carl Melvin Adcock of Bethany, MO passed away Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Cameron Veterans Home, Cameron, MO at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 20 days.

He was born November 14, 1922 in Gentry County, MO and spent his entire life in Bethany, MO except while serving in World War II in the U.S. Army. He served under General Patton in Europe and later in the Philippines. He was the second son of Clarence Obediah and Leona May (Frizzell) Adcock.

Carl married Virginia Lee Bain on March 27, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. They celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary in 2014. Carl worked in the printing department for the Harrison County Times for 7 years, leaving there in 1955 to work in maintenance at the Bethany office of the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Carl and Virginia also cleaned the U.S. Army Reserve Center for 20 years.

They were the parents of two sons, Gary Gene and Carl Dale. They enjoyed assisting during their sons’ baseball games and other sports. For many years they were members of the Buttons and Bows Square Dance Club. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Max Ellsworth; and a step-grandson, Dewayne Edward Patton.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons and their wives, Gary (Sue) Adcock, Kansas City, Carl Dale (Brenda) Adcock, Bethany; step-daughter and husband, Judy (Fay) Patton, Des Moines; 2 grandsons, Nicholas (Liz) Adcock, Columbia, MO and Derek Adcock, Bethany; sister, Fran Lewis, Bethany; and 2 half-sisters, Sue (Gary) Hall, Trenton, and Waneta Older, St. Joseph.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO where friends may call from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Miriam Cemetery and/or Cameron Veteran’s Home in care of Roberson Funeral Home, PO Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
