Planning for future storms: Ralph Dishong, center, from the St. Joseph Red Cross office, discusses preparations for future winter storms with persons interested in establishing shelters for stranded travelers. The meeting was held Friday at the NTA office.

Volunteers and emergency responders gathered at the NTA ambulance office Friday morning to receive orientation from a Red Cross official in setting up shelters for stranded travelers during winter storms.
Ralph Dishong, disaster program specialist for the Red Cross, said the goal of the training session was to build upon the momentum from the Thanksgiving blizzard that closed a number of area highways.
