Three offices to be contested in August primary election

BETHANY, MO: The Aug. 7 primary election will have contests for the Republican nomination for county clerk, circuit clerk and prosecuting attorney, but no Democratic candidates filed before the deadline at 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the County Clerk’s office.

In the latest filing, Sabra Hamiton put in her name to oppose Circuit Clerk/Ex Officio Recorder Sherece Eivins in the August Republican primary.

Greta Bottcher and Carly Miller had previously filed as candidates to succeed retiring County Clerk Jackie Deskins. Two Bethany attorneys, Nathan Easton and Johnathan L. Meyer, also had earlier filed to succeed Cristine Stallings.

Jay Hemenway will be unopposed to succeed Tom Alley as associate circuit judge. Judge Alley plans to move up the circuit judge to succeed retiring Judge Jack Peace.

Incumbent Presiding Commissioner Jack Hodge will be unopposed for re-election.

State Representative J. Eggleston from the third district will be opposed by Amy Babcock of Stewartsville for re-election in the Republican primary, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

U.S. Representative Sam Graves of Tarkio will be unopposed in the Republican primary. Winston Apple of Independence and Henry Robert martin of Kansas City have filed for the Democratic nomination for Congress. Dan Hogan of St. Peters, Mo., has filed as a Libertarian candidate.

State Senator Dan Hegeman, Cosby, will be unopposed in the Republican primary. Terry Richard of Holt filed on Friday as a candidate in the Democratic primary.

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill will be opposed by a field of six candidtes in the Democratic primary. Her main opponent in the November general election will be Josh Hawley, currently serving as the attorney general. Nine other candidates have filed for the Republican nomination for the Senate.

State Auditor Nicole Galloway is unopposed for the Democratic nomination. Four Republican candidates have filed including Kevin Roach of Chesterfiled, David Wasinger of St. Louis, Paul Curtman of Washington and Saundra McDowell of Jefferson City.
