Building getting a facelift: A crew from Sizemore Masonry remove old material from the bricks while tuckpointing the Republican-Clipper building in downtown Bethany. The Clipper has joined a long line of downtown businesses that are making repairs to the exteriors of their buildings. The Sizemore crew has been working at full steam this summer on repairs.
The Bethany Printing building was a part of the old Knights of Pythias “castle” building that was constructed in the 1880s. The City Hall and public library formerly occupied the castle portion of the building but were destroyed in a fire in the 1980s. The Sizemore company, which hails from the LaPlata, Mo., area reportedly will be working on other buildings in downtown Bethany in the upcoming weeks.
