The Bethany Public Library is planning their Summer Reading Events for children from June 1-August 7. The theme for summer reading is “Tails and Tales”. There will be prizes for number of books read and end of summer prize drawings for all readers. Children should come in to the Library to sign up and receive a reading log. A summer reading sign-up Movie Party is scheduled for Friday, June 4 at 5:00 p.m. Space is limited for this event so please call the Library to reserve a spot (425-8008). Pet Palooza is planned for July 3 and a Swim Party is planned for August 6. More information will be forthcoming about these events. A special thank you to supporters of the Summer Reading Program: City of Bethany, Friends of the Library, Library Board of Directors, GRM, HCCH, South Harrison School, and of course Library staff and their friends!

The Library Staff has been invited to read and promote the Library to South Harrison Summer School students on June 7th.

Books continue to be delayed in shipping as we wait up to a month or more on deliveries from a vendor. We have had some generous memorial donations come in and have used some of the money for new children’s books. We have received memorial donations for Dorothy Sheets from Roberta Smith; for Betty Rose Dills (Opal Ramey’s sister) from Karen and Glen Harrold, Sharon and Les Kelim, and Linda Drew; for Kathy Jones from Linda Drew; and for Doretta Youngman from Lydia Youngman and Martha Gregg.

Leaves will be added to the Memorial Tree for Doretta Youngman and Betty Rose Dills.

Our seniors will be able to meet and enjoy coffee and visiting again starting on Tuesday, June 1st, at 10:00 a.m. We have sure missed seeing each other since the pandemic. We have removed our mask requirement. The Library staff is all fully vaccinated now. Masks will be offered to those who still wish to wear one. We will continue to sanitize computers and tables and encourage the use of hand sanitizer.

The Library will participate in the City-Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, June 5th, at 8:00 a.m. by holding a paperback book sale outside the Library. Our books still have lots of good reading left in them, so stop by and take some home with you! Our inside sale room is back open also.
