Sydney Lindsey

Eleven-year-old Sidney Lindsey, daughter of Fred and Betty Lindsey of Bethany, sang the National Anthem during opening ceremonies at the Kansas City JDRF Chapter One Walk on October 10 at Truman sports complex in front of crowd of 10,000 plus.

She was diagnosed September 11, 2010 with Type 1 diabetes.

Sydney and her family became involved with Kansas City JDRF chapter weeks later attending her first JDRF walk in October 2010.   Her walk team name is “Sydney’s Sunshine”.  She has had a walk team each year since. Sydney has raised money through various activities. The total raised is in excess of $15,000 throughout her efforts over the past several years. This year she was unsure she would meet her yearly $2000 goal for her walk team.   But she did not give up. She went door-to-door seeking donations. She sold Sydney’s Sunshine t-shirts, and held a root beer float stand. As of walk day 2015 Sydney’s team total is in excess of $3000.

Sydney has sung at South Harrison sporting events to get ready for her big day.

Donations can be made this year to JDRF Kansas City Chapter, 920 Main Street, Suite 280, Kansas City, Mo., 64105 with “Sydney’s Sunshine” on the memo line.
