LeeAnn Miles, who is running for re-election as the Harrison County Clerk in the Nov. 3 General Election, was arrested Friday afternoon on a charge of stealing and the financial exploitation of the elderly, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control announced Miles’ arrest on a charge of stealing $25,000 or more and financial exploitation of an elderly/disabled person. The arrest was a result of an investigation conducted by the Troop H Criminal Investigation Unit.
Miles was arrested at 3 p.m. Friday at the Harrison County Courthouse.
In July of 2026, the Bethany Police Department asked DDCC to conduct an investigation regarding theft/fraud allegations involving the county clerk. Over the next several months, investigators continued their investigation and discovered that Miles had been entrusted to oversee an elderly person’s financial responsibilities, according to the patrol.
The patrol said it was determined that from November 2023 through July 2026 Miles allegedly made more than 500 transactions from the victim’s account to an account owned by Miles.
DDCC investigators developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Miles.
At the Harrison County prosecutor’s request, the Daviess County prosecutor was appointed as special prosecutor in the case.
On Oct. 16, the Daviess County prosecutor charged Miles with one count of stealing and one count of financial exploitation of an elderly/disabled person.
She was transported to the Daviess/Dekalb County Jail where she is currently being held without bond.
