
Andover, MO: Ivan James Lane, 83, Andover, Mo. left this life surrounded by family on July 7, 2026, at the North Care Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. Ivan was born in Harrison County on July 23, 1942, the youngest son of Herbert James and Eva Wilburn (Petersen) Lane.
Ivan grew up in the Andover community where he enjoyed spending time with his dog Teddy, and rode his horse, Smokey, to the Downy Country School. He finished his formal education at the Lamoni Community Schools, in Lamoni, Iowa.
On May 30, 1961, Ivan married Melva Beth Hill on the Andover family farm where they made their first home. To this union, they were blessed with three children: son, Shawn and daughters, Carrie and Jennifer.
Ivan worked the land farming and also worked various jobs including the rock quarry, driving a milk truck, an over-the-road truck driver alongside his brother, Gerald (Tip), working at the Boswell Elevator in Davis City, Iowa and retiring after 29 years of service as a machinist at Industrial Hardfacing, Inc. in Lamoni, Iowa. After living several years in Eagleville, Missouri, Ivan and Beth moved back to the Andover farm in 1979, where he remained throughout his retirement.
Ivan loved spending time in his woodworking shop. He worked on countless projects and enjoyed sharing his creations with family, friends and neighbors. During his retirement, and before, he shared his love of farming and raising cattle alongside his son, Shawn.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Beth, daughter, Jennifer Lame, brothers, Herman, Gerald “Tip,” and Wallace Lane and sister, Donna Mae Lane, in childhood.
Ivan is survived by his children, Shawn (Tammy) Lane and Carrie (Tim) Richardson, grandchildren, Seth (Ashley) Lane, Shelby Lane, Shannon (Brandy) Lane, Casey (Summer) Richardson, Kyle Richardson, Cody (Samantha) Lame, and Dylan (Kim) Lame, 34 great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and his best friend and companion, Trouble.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, with Larry Phillips officiating. Burial follows in the Andover Cemetery, Harrison County, Missouri. Visitation is 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home.
