Gilman City, MO: Concerns are growing in rural Missouri schools as Governor Mike Kehoe proposes sweeping changes to how education is funded. The Missouri Governor’s 2026 budget proposal focuses on restructuring education funding by creating a task force to modernize the Missouri Foundation Formula, a funding model determining state aid, with plans to shift $50 million in state funds to private/religious school scholarships. The task force, called the Missouri School Funding Modernization Task Force will overhaul how money is distributed and put a focus on supporting “child-centered” funding, including public, charter, and private school options.–By Caleb Osmon
