Bethany, MO: Bruce Williams leads a discussion on events of the World War II years during his evening class at the North Central Career Center. Williams, a retired teacher and current pastor at the Eagleville Community Church, has been reviewing the decade-by-decade of American history during the class. Attending last Wednesday’s class, from the left, were Roberta Smith and Richard and Ann Graner. Williams displayed photos from the era between 1940 to 1949 including a page from a ration book that county residents had to use to buy commodities during the war years. There was a limit on tire and gas sales and even coffee, among other items. “If you bought up your sugar ration, you couldn’t buy any more,” he said. Class participant Bobbie Taggart contributed information on some of the men he knew who had fought in the war. He said some local men were killed in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. Ann Graner said her father and his twin brother from Kansas took part in the D-Day landing in Normandy. This week’s class will focus on the 1950s including the Korean War, Rock and Roll, Civil Rights and Eisenhower.–Republican-Clipper photo
