Monument to former slaves: New gravestones honoring the descendants of Ed and Angeline Duson, former slaves, have been placed at Miriam Cemetery by the Roberson Funeral Home. Members of the Duson family will be gathering at the cemetery over the weekend of May 1 for the dedication of the monuments. The new stones are arrayed around the original burial location of the Dusons’ grave.

Bethany, MO: Harrison County was a much different place in 1855—just 15 years after the county was founded—when Dr. John Ford purchased a young couple who became his slaves at his home in Bethany.
