Street sales tax approved in election

The city of Bethany’s plan to resurface all 35 miles of city-owned streets moved forward Tuesday when voters approved a half-cent sales tax to pay for the improvements.

The half-cent sales tax was approved by 53 percent of the voters in the election requiring only a simple majority. The election had a very light turnout.

In other elections, Steve Miles was re-elected as Westward alderman and Chad Smith and Mark Plymell were re-elected to the school board.
