Columbia, MO: Cynthia Lane Johns Hamilton, 78, of Columbia, formerly of Bethany, Mo., passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2026, in Columbia, Mo., after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born on January 29, 1948, in Coffey, Mo., the daughter of William Harley and Beatrice Johns.
Cindy will be lovingly missed and remembered by her two daughters, Heather Hamilton-Taft, Mary K. Hamilton-Neal and her husband, Chris of Clark, three grandsons, Dante Taft of Colorado, Christian Taft of Texas, and Nathaniel Hamilton of Columbia, three great-granddaughters, Serina Piper Hamilton of Columbia and Nylea and Josephine Taft of Colorado, her many friends and neighbors, and all God’s creatures that she cared for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son William Haden Hamilton, two brothers, Zane and Kent Cunningham, and her sister Marilyn Sanders.
Cindy loved genealogy and had many fond memories of putting together her family’s genealogy with her mom, aunt, and sister. She would often regale her daughters with stories about family members from times past and her joyful childhood growing up on her family’s farm in North Missouri. She loved animals and cared for all of God’s creatures. She had many exceptional talents, which included sewing, wreath-making, flower arranging, art, and cooking. She also enjoyed antique and thrift stores, reading, and visiting with people. She was a caregiver at heart, just like her mother.
A burial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Miriam Cemetery in Bethany, Mo.
