Prairie Village, KS: Carey Chip Jones, age 59, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 during a short duration at St Luke’s Hospice House.
Born on August 26, 1966, at St Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, Chip was the beloved son of Gay D. Jones II and Sharon Greenwood Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother (January 2026), and his father (October 1986). Chip is survived by his brother, Trevor Jones of Long Beach, California.
Chip earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1993 and an MBA from Baker University in 2003. After 24 years in the insurance industry at Zurich North America, Chip last worked for Fairbanks Scales.
With a true love for animals, Chip cared for a Sheltie (Biscuit), two cats (Dazzle and Denali), and fish. The Sheltie was especially dear, having belonged to his mother, and was one of many pets he lovingly cared for over the years. Chip deeply valued his relationships with friends and was known for enjoying a wide range of interests: roller coasters, fishing, astronomy, fireworks, home improvement, ballroom dancing, pet care, dining out, attending the Kansas City Zoo’s annual Jazzoo festival, and gardening in both his own and his mother’s yards.
A car enthusiast, Chip owned and took pride in many vehicles, including an Oldsmobile 442, Chevy Camaro, Mini, Chevy Chevelle, and Chevrolet Corvette (427 HP). He really enjoyed restoring classic cars and sharing this passion with others. He was always collaborating with friends to share the experiences of car restorations and always wanting to learn more.
In recent years, Chip pursued professional photography as an avid hobby. He often traveled with friends to places such as Loess Bluffs in northern Missouri and various places across Kansas and Missouri to photograph birds, the Milky Way galaxy, hot air balloons in Indianola, Iowa, weddings, family gatherings, and ballroom dances. He frequented Powell Gardens, the KC Zoo and Aquarium, and Grinter Farms. The most meaningful part of his photographic work was capturing cherished memories for loved ones.
Chip will be remembered for his unwavering dedication and kindness to everyone around him. He was always ready to lend a hand to neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family, whether it was helping with their lawns, fixing mowers, or reuniting people with lost pets. His life was filled with so many wonderful people and that is something for which everyone can be proud.
