The current bathrooms inside the community gym allow just 24 inches to squeeze between the wall of the restroom and the privacy wall. The tight fit would make it impossible for a wheelchair to enter the bathroom. The gym plans to build a restroom meeting ADA requirements, expanding the gym’s footprint at a projected cost of $170,000.
Bethany, MO: Patrick Miller, president of the Parks and Rec. board, appeared before the city council to discuss his 2026 budget. The mayor opened by asking Miller about a budget item marked for the community gym budgeting $170,000 for bathrooms. Miller said it would cap off the last of the gym renovations. For some time the gym has slowly been making steps to retrofit the building to be ADA compliant. A problem emerged with the bathrooms on the main level; because of the extremely tight space, a wheelchair could not enter into the bathroom. The parks board’s solution is to build a bathroom on the east side of the gym, expanding their footprint to include dual locker rooms and ADA restroom facilities.
