Bethany, MO: Citizens of Bethany experienced a blackout on Friday night. The power abruptly disconnected around 7:15 p.m. and returned after a span of about an hour. NW Electric Power Co-Op, the company Bethany draws power from, said there was an issue at one of their substations resulting in the company blowing a fuse. The power outage affected everything in Bethany from the stoplights to Walmart and Hy-Vee and everything in between. As cars navigated the intersection without help from the lights, store employees gathered outside their dark businesses to watch the sun set. The outage saw outrage among the people as the failing power blacked out the Kansas City Chiefs’ pre-season game.--Republican-Clipper photo
