Bethany, MO: My first foray into the world of pickleball began on a sour note. One day before the scheduled tournament, Diane Linville, a member of the Bethany LOBsters and the tournament organizer, came walking into the Republican-Clipper office with her head hung low and carrying my $60 entry check in her hand. She delivered the disappointing news that only four teams had signed up for the tournament, falling short of the 16 teams she had hoped for, so the event was canceled due to lack of interest. Diane said she would keep the prizes and donations from local businesses and reschedule the tournament for some time later in the year.
