William M. (Bill) Dorney was born September 27, 1936 the son of William T. and Lillian (Kroschen) Dorney near Gilman City.  He graduated from Gilman City High School and attended the U.S. Trade School at St. Benedicts College in Atchison, KS where he studied diesel mechanics.  Bill enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 2 years, where was a mechanic, working on military tanks.  After being discharged in 1962 from the military, Bill came back home and worked on the family farm north of Gilman City.  His love of agriculture was apparent, whether he was putting in crops, mowing and baling hay or tending cattle he enjoyed every aspect of the farm.  Bill was united in marriage to Delores (Scott) Hillyard in 1986.  The couple made their home in Bethany, later moving to the farm north of Bethany. Bill and Delores were over the road truck drivers for many years, traveling all over the United States. They enjoyed the time they spent trucking and were able to see many beautiful sites this country has to offer. In the later years he did grain hauling for area farmers.  Bill was a farmer and rancher in every sense of the word.  He was dedicated and enjoyed every aspect of his profession

Bill was a devoted member of the St Johns Catholic Church in Gilman City and the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Bethany and enjoyed the fellowship he shared with his church family. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger, he loved to visit.  Family was a very important part of his life and spending time with them was always special.  Bill was a kind, gentle and soft-spoken man who made many friends throughout his life. He was laid back with a slow and steady pace. His legacy of love of his family and friends, his church and the land he so cared about will live on through those who knew and loved him. Bill will be greatly missed.
