George Lee Bowles was born April 29, 1940, the son of Dean and Lola (Spaulding) Bowles in Blythedale, Missouri, and passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home at the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 24 days, after a 10 year battle of leukemia.

On July 16, 1961, he married Kay Stowe in Bethany, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2005.

George farmed all of his life, and had many stories to share about his farming experiences from farming with a team of horses to modern day farming. George and Kay’s kids farmed with them and they respected the work ethic that their parents taught to them, and shaped them into who they are today. George was very proud of his kids and talked quite often about them.

George loved his family and loved spending time with the grandkids. He couldn’t wait to hear a story about what his grandkids had done so that he could thrive on the thought of his kids getting even for some of the things that they had done to him and Kay. He enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood and later in life. The stories and memories will forever live on in his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

George was a former South District Commissioner for where he served 12 years. He enjoyed working for the people of the county. He was very active in the Northwest Missouri State Fair Livestock Board where he has served as swine superintendent for to many years to list. He was also involved in many other organizations until his health started failing him.

George was baptized at a young age in the river and was a man of faith. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Bowles, January 11, 2006, 2 sisters, Darlene Billups and Mary Ann Abaray, and a brother, Rex Bowles.

Survivors include 2 sons, Brad and Tammy Bowles, of Bethany, Missouri; Chris and Elizabeth Bowles, of Maryville, Missouri; daughter, Angela and Tim Wolters, of Maryville Missouri; daughter-in-law Brooke Bowles, of Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren, Sarah and Peter Hoeller, Valerie and Dustin Kessler, Joshua and Kasey Bowles, Bryton Bowles, Blayton Bowles, Brylee Bowles, Dustin Wolters, Shelby Wolters, Colby Bowles, Cain Bowles, McCoy Bowles, and Ledger Bowles and 5 great grandchildren.

George always tried to follow in Kay’s footsteps by doing what was special to them and that was to always have an impact on some child’s life. This leads into how the memorial was chosen. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Harrison Country Backpack Buddies program.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 26 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrison County Backpack Buddies in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
