Bill “Sandman” Martz, 1943 – 2018

Bethany, MO: Bill “Sandman” Martz, 75, Bethany, MO (formerly of Burlington Junction, MO) passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at a Bethany, MO nursing home.

He was born April 14, 1943 in Bethany, Missouri the son of Harry Leo and Margaret Irene (Williams) Martz.

Bill was a 1961 graduate of South Harrison High School in Bethany. After serving in the U.S. Military, he worked at the rock quarry in Bethany. Bill and his partners then opened the B & B Sand Plant in Albany and Burlington Jct. He later opened and operated the Riverside Sand Plant in Burlington Jct. for the next 30 years. For a short time before his retirement, he worked for Kawasaki in Maryville, MO.

Some of the things Bill really enjoyed were gardening, fishing, playing cards and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also loved watching the Little League World Series and women’s college softball games.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susie Clark and infant daughter, Vicki Sue Martz.

Survivors include his sons, William Dwight Martz, Canton, MO and Mike (Angie) Lightner, Burlington Jct., MO; daughters, Natalie McFall, Bethany, MO, Mindy (John) Richburg, Brundidge, AL, Melissa (Danny) Evans, Clearmont, MO and Michelle (Jim) Petersen, Moorpark, CA; grandchildren, Joeseph Daniel (Emma) Martz, Cory Lee Martz, Katherine Elizabeth Martz, Abigail Louise Martz, Tara (Tanner) Umbarger, Tessa Lightner, Andrew Lightner, Kameron McFall, Kasey McFall, Josiah Richburg, Noelle Richburg, Bryce Evans, Ryan Evans, Lauren Petersen, Nick Petersen and Eric Petersen; 3 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill Clark and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Memorial Graveside Service and Inurnment will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4 at Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO.

There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Miriam Cemetery and/or Donor’s Choice in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. box 46, Bethany, MO 64424. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.
