BETTY JANE BROUGH ANDERSON, 1925-2018

INDEPENDENCE, MO: Betty Jane Brough Anderson, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Independence, Missouri on May 10, 2018 after a long illness.

Betty was born on October 1, 1925 to Earl and Ruie Brough at Brooklyn, Missouri. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1943. She married Wendell D. Anderson on June 30, 1946 at Linwood Methodist Church in Kansas City. Two children were born of this union, Cynthia Gentsch (12/8/1948) and Randall Anderson (8/6/1954). She was a long time member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until her declining health prevented further service.

Betty was a Master Gardener and loved flowers and nature. Her greatest passion was serving others, especially her family.  Her life was lived like one of her favorite poems: “I shall pass through this world but once. If, therefore, there is any kindness I can show, or any good things I can do, let me do it now; let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wilma; step-brothers, Robert, Rex, Dale VanHoozer; and daughter, Cindy.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Wendell; son, Randall and daughter-in-law, Vicki Anderson; son-in-law, Kenneth Gentsch, wife Sharon; grandchildren, Christina Oatis, Kevin Gentsch, Jake Anderson and Aaron Anderson and their spouses, Jason Oatis, Rita Childers, Maricruz Zavala Hernandez, and Laura Anderson; great grandchildren, Olivia Oatis, Ella Oatis and Landon Anderson.

Based on her loving example and lifelong testimony, her family places their faith of eternity in the promises of the Holy Bible and our Lord, Jesus Christ.

With loving remembrance she is gone but not forgotten.

A precious one from us is gone, a voice we loved is stilled; which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled the boon his love had given, and though the body slumbers here, the soul is safe in heaven.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 18 at the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, MO 64133 with Pastor Anchul Axelrod officiating. Graveside Services and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19 in Ravanna Cemetery, Ravanna, MO with Pastor Sean Hammond officiating under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Princeton, MO.
