Bobby Dale Zimmerman, 84, of Crofton died Monday, February 20, 2017 at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Mike McKinney officiating.  Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.  Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

A native of Cainsville, MO, he was born January 14, 1933, the son of the late Forrest and Mary Richardson Zimmerman.  He was a retired US Army helicopter pilot who served in the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a bronze star for his service.  He was a member of the 116th Aviation Company Association “The Hornets” and the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.  After his retirement from the Army, he became a farmer and owner of the Crofton Eat Shop.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers:  Everett Zimmerman and Wayne Zimmerman; his sisters: Opal Alexander, Irene Boggs, and Arlene Zimmerman.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ellen Rucker Zimmerman; his sons: Billy Zimmerman (Laura) of Michigan, and Audie Zimmerman (Cynthia) of Florida; his daughters: Bonnie Cansler (Terry) of Crofton and Sondra Marston (Gregory) of Illinois; his brother: Forrest O. Zimmerman, Jr., of Missouri; his grandchildren: Nicole Garland, Kara Zimmerman, Bobby Cansler, Zachary Zimmerman, Jennifer Smith, Katrina Zimmerman, Chelsea Zimmerman, Kendall Marston, Brady Marston; step grandchildren: Donovan Cansler, Tara Penney, Colt Hardin, and Tyler Penney; his great grandchildren: Kurgen Garland, Kyrie Garland, and Nikolas Garland; step great grandchild: Korbin Cansler.
