Back to school for Harrison County students

N1407P15002CSchool is back in session. Registration and other information for each of the surrounding schools are listed.

South Harrison school district administrators are Dennis Eastin, Superintendent; Mark Forster, High School Principal; Shane Jones, Middle School Principal; and Natalie Arnold, Elementary Principal.

New teachers in the district are Emily Edwards, 1st grade; Amanda Mather, elementary music; Aaron McQuinn, elementary art; Dale Lasman, 5th and 6th grade English and language arts; Suzanne Slaughter, 5th and 6th grade special education; Shelley Smith, 5th grade math; Christine Chesney, middle school general music and assistant band director; Nick Joint, middle and high school boys physical education; Scott Neth, high school guidance counselor; Carlen Hudlemeyer, principal’s secretary; Louis O’Brien, high school social studies; and Heather Waddell, speech and junior English.

Registration for seniors begins at 9:00 a.m. on August 10th. Junior registration is August 11th at 9:00 a.m. with 5th grade orientation at 5:30 p.m. Sophomore registration is August 12th at 9:00 a.m. with 6th grade orientation at 5:30 p.m. 8th grade orientation is August 15th at 9:00 a.m. with Freshman at 7:00 p.m. Parents are invited to attend the freshman registration, as this is also when orientation will be held. Chrome books will be disbursed at registration, and insurance will be available again this year.

Registration for new students at the elementary school will be on August 8th and 9th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1-3 p.m. Parents are reminded to bring their child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, and the address of the last school their child attended when registering a new student to the district. The elementary school open house will be August 18th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Pettijohn will be providing hot dogs and drinks free to families.

The elementary school is projected to have between 375 and 400 students enrolled this year.

Fall sports practices are set to begin August 1st. There will be a football jamboree August 12th at 7 p.m., and a softball jamboree August 15th at 5:30 p.m.

The first day of school is August 22nd with an early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Previous 5th grade modular classrooms are to be sold, while the indoor classroom is to be made back into a computer lab for students.

North Harrison school district administrators are Rick Johnson, Superintendent; Mike Schmidli, High School Principal; and Jan Polley, Elementary Principal.

New staff in the district will be Hilary Castleberry, 7-12 principal’s secretary, and Jody Davis, nurse.

New teachers include David Hall, high school science; Ashton Hall, preschool; Vonda Nelson, 6th grade; Dayton Little, elementary special education paraprofessional; and Keely Waddle, high school special education paraprofessional.

The school district has also discontinued its contract with Lunchtime Solutions, which means that all kitchen staff are now official members of the school district staff. They are Cyndi Owens, Monica Wilson, and Kari Parkhurst.

Registration for grades 7-12 and any new students is August 3rd and 4th from 1:00-7:00 p.m. The elementary school will be holding a Back to School night for all elementary students on Monday, August 15th, from 6-7 p.m. A MSHSAA concussion meeting will be held at 7 p.m. following Back to School night for all North Harrison athletes and their parents.

School hour policies have also been changed for this year, with classes beginning at 8:05 a.m. and dismissing at 3:20 p.m. Early dismissals will now be at 12:50, and late starts to the school day will begin at 10 a.m.

Football and Varsity Softball practices are set to begin on August 1st, and Junior High Softball will begin August 15th.

The first day of school is August 17th.

Cainsville school administrators are Richard Smith, Superintendent; Bill Pottorff, K-12 Principal, and Mike Booth, Assistant Principal.

The first day of school is August 19th, with an early dismissal at 12:50 p.m.

Gilman City school district administrators are Roger Alley, Superintendent, and Brent Mitchell, High School and Elementary Principal.

New teachers in the district are Ronda Preston, high school science; Jesse Bilderback, high school history; Rebecca Taggart, 4th grade; Caitlyn Hesley, special education paraprofessional and assistant girls basketball coach; and Samantha Oram, 1st grade.

The elementary will be holding a Back to School night August 18th from 6-7 p.m.

The first day of school is August 22nd, and there will be an early dismissal.

Ridgeway school district administrators are Brenda E. Dougan, Superintendent, and Kristi Weldon, High School and Elementary Principal.

New teachers in the district will be Dylan Layme, high school science; Bethany Meullar, art teacher and paraprofessional; Amy Glenn, 5th and 6th grade; and Sarah Groelusbhen, music and Spanish.

New staff will be Kay Meek, cook, and Audra Mclain, secretary.

There will be an open house Back to School barbecue on August 16th at the school from 5-6:30 p.m., and students are asked to bring their school supplies to this event.

The first day of school is August 17th, with an early dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

Back to school tax-free holiday weekend will be August 5th-7th.
