Terry D. Hillyard

 

Terry D. Hillyard, 55, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Andrew County.

 

Terry was born on February 22, 1954, in Marshall, Mo., to Ernest and Iva “Nadine” (Harrah) Hillyard.

 

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Brian Hillyard; and great-niece, Jaeden Badalamente.

 

Survivors include three children; three grandchildren; four brothers and one sister. Local survivors include Richard (Rosetta) Hillyard, Carol (Bob) Hodges, Joann Hillyard and the late Eugene Hillyard.

 

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Star United Methodist Church, Union Star, Mo. The family will receive friends at the church 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Inurnment at a later date.

Memorial contributions to Missouri Department of Conservation.

 


Diana Cain Craig

 

Diana Cain Craig, 55, Gilman City, died January 27, 2010.

 

She was born December 4, 1954 in Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Lewis and Marilyn Lea (Meisner) Woodring, Sr.

 

Diana was employed as a CNA at Crestivew Nursing Home, Inc.

 

Survivors include children, William Cain and Kellie Hunt; grandsons, Chad, Jonathan and Justin Hunt; brothers, James, Lewis, Dale and John Woodring; sister, Martha Sarmiento; nieces and nephews; friends, Edna Johnson and Toni Woodring.

 

Diana will be cremated after the visitation on January 31. Inurnment at a late date in Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens.

Harold Walker Flint

 

Harold Walker Flint, 85, of Bethany, Mo., lost his long, courageous battle with malignant squamous cell carcinoma and died on Thursday, January 27, 2010, at Crestview Home, Inc.

 

Harold was born on December 5, 1924 in Bethany, Mo., the son of Walker and Mabel (Utterback) Flint.

 

Harold was married to Mary Ann Lewis on November 14, 1948, who he cared for and lost to Alzheimer’s after a long illness on March 29, 1996.

 

Harold graduated from Bethany, Missouri High School and received a bachelor’s degree in math, a master’s degree in education, both from Northwest Missouri State University (then called the “Normal School”) in Maryville, Mo., and a specialist degree in school administration and education from Central Missouri State University (now called the University of Central Missouri) in Warrensburg.

 

Harold was a machinist mate in the Navy during World War II, where he served on the USS Helena CA 75, a heavy cruiser.

 

Harold taught high school math, and also was a school superintendent over the course of almost 30 years combined at Winston and Ridgeway school districts in Missouri.

 

Harold was a long-time member of the Lions Club, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows (IOOF), the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.  Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.  After he retired from the school systems he was also elected as the Harrison County Commissioner, and was a volunteer Road to Recovery driver for the American Cancer Society.

 

He was an avid gardener and loved watching sports, the school bands and being with his family and friends.

 

Survivors include one son and two daughters, James Walker Flint of Savannah, Mo., Angela Donnelly of Nixon, Mo., and Rebecca Ann Herold of Van Meter, Iowa, along with their respective spouses, Adeline, Jim and Tom; four grandchildren, Heather Hausman, Chris Donnelly, Noah Herold and Heath Herold, along with Heather’s spouse Marc; two great-grandchildren, Caylie and Dalton; three step-grandchildren, Theresa, Leslie and Danny and eight step great-grandchildren.  Harold has a surviving sister, Betty Spence of Waterloo, Iowa, and her three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and special friend, Betty Lacy.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

 

Funeral services were Sunday, January 31, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. Burial with military rites in Burris Cemetery, Bethany, Mo.

Lewis Lloyd Wilson

 

Lewis Lloyd Wilson, 84, Bethany, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Bethany, Mo.

 

He was born December 27, 1925 in Harrison County, Mo., the son of Thomas Millard and Jessie Lee (Larkin) Wilson.

 

On November 6, 1954, he married Mary Ann Graham in LaPlata, Mo.  She preceded him in death on February 16, 2009.

 

He was a truck driver for the Bethany Cheese Factory.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (Floyd) Zuber; sons, Randy “Buck” (Terri) Wilson, Rick (Rene) Wilson and Bobby Wilson, all of Bethany; sisters, Mary Stevens, Bethany, Mo., and Doris June Seely, Westminister, Colo.; brother, Freddy Wilson, Maryville, Mo.; grandchildren, Josh Wilson, Jenny (Rick) Carter, Jessica Wilson, Tiffany (David) Baldwin and Jonathan Stevens; great-grandchildren, Lillian Carter and Zyler Smith.

 

He also was preceded in death by parents; wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Sherri Luann; numerous brothers and sisters.

 

Funeral services were Saturday, January 30, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany Mo.  Burial with military rites in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Mo.

Winafred Alice Roe

 

Winafred Alice Roe, 86, Bethany, (formerly of Webster City, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

 

She was born December 13, 1923 in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of William and Nellie  (Brainard) Whiteaker.

 

On July 19, 1945, she married Roy R. Roe in Omaha, Neb.

 

Winafred was a homemaker.

 

Survivors include daughters, Ann (Delmer) Crabtree, Bethany, Mo., and Fay Gothard, Pleasant Hill, Iowa; sons, Robert Roe and family, Marshalltown, Iowa, and Rene Roe and family, Oklahoma;  two sisters and several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant sons and brothers and sisters.

 

Winafred will be cremated and inurnment in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa, will be held at a later date.

Veta “Fern” Wheeler

 

Veta “Fern” Wheeler, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Winslow House Care Center, Marion.

 

Fern was born May 22, 1919, the daughter of Calvin and Mary (Landes) Longfellow, in Cainsville, Mo. She married Mark Elzo Wheeler on April 15, 1939, in Vinton.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Dixie Ray; five sisters and four brothers.

 

Survivors include one daughter, Judith (Del) Boardman of Walker, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Zelma O’Neal of Cedar Rapids; and several nephews and special nieces that lovingly called her “Auntie Mom.”

 


Margaret I. Woodring

 

Margaret Islona Woodring, age 90, a 50-year resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010.

 

She was born September 19, 1919, in Bethany, Mo., to Claude and Daisy (nee Updegraff) Miller.

As a military wife, she traveled all over the world with her late husband, Robert Lloyd Woodring. Together, they had one son, William Arthur Woodring who was born in France.

 

While they were stationed in France, Margaret was very active in the community. She volunteered for the Army Community Service for one year and served as president of the non-commissioned officer’s wives club for two years. Additionally Margaret cleaned government quarters, homes, and house and pet sat for many clients.

 

She was a very loving and caring person. She always took pride in work. While living in the states, she worked in a variety of department stores and factories in Pontiac, Mich., and Bethany, Mo., areas.

 

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lloyd Woodring; her parents; and two brothers, Freeman E. Smith and James L. Smith.

 

She is survived by her son, William Arthur Woodring of Sierra Vista; granddaughters, Renata Tasker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Christina McGinnis of Snowflake, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Iva Davenport (Denzel) of Princeton, Mo.; niece, Stephanie Davenport of Kansas City, Mo.; and nephew, Steve Smith of Grayling Mich.

 

Graveside services were January 15 at Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca.
